NEEV Hackler M.O.P. – My Experience After Four Months
I first came across NEEV four years ago, while on holiday in the Netherlands with my wife. We were out for an evening stroll through Hoorn when a few watches in a jeweller’s window caught my eye. I didn’t know the brand, but there was something about those watches that made me stop and look. The shop was already closed, so I took a photo to remind myself to look them up at home. Good intentions… then everyday life took over, and NEEV slipped my mind.
Earlier this year, I came across that photo again and immediately remembered why I had taken it. This time, I actually visited the website – and eventually settled on the Hackler.
What It’s Been Like to Wear
After about four months, I wear my Hackler regularly and still enjoy looking at it. The design was what drew me in, and that hasn’t changed: fairly understated, but with enough character to stand out. With its black mother-of-pearl dial, it has become one of the favourites in my collection.
Getting that particular dial deserves a mention. At the time, it was only available on the Zimann M.O.P., but I thought I’d ask whether it could be fitted to the Hackler. It could – and at no extra charge. Jacco in sales took care of my request with patience and enthusiasm. Many thanks for that, Jacco!
The watch arrived quickly and was well packaged.
It has also held up well in everyday use. It has handled minor knocks well, and there are hardly any signs of wear so far. I’m very happy with the build quality, the weight feels comfortable, and the Miyota quartz movement has been quietly getting on with its job. I haven’t noticed any significant timekeeping deviations.
Of course, living with a watch also reveals the little things you’d like to change. For me, there are two. I wish the lume were stronger and lasted longer: the dial is easy to read during the day, but once it gets dark, I find myself struggling to make out the time. The butterfly clasp is the other point. I like how neatly it fits into the design, but I haven’t been able to get the bracelet length quite right for my wrist. A little more scope for fine adjustment would make it more comfortable to wear.
Would I buy the Hackler again? Yes! It’s a lovely dress watch that I’m happy to wear on an ordinary day, too. There’s room for improvement in the lume and bracelet adjustment, but neither has taken away my enjoyment of it. The design still makes me smile, and the friendly, personal service made the whole experience a good one.
One final wish: NEEV also offers automatic GMT watches, so I’m hoping an automatic Day & Date might follow one day. That could well add the finishing touch to my watch collection.
